Queen's speech announces reforms
17/11/2006
On 15th November 2006, the Queen's speech mentioned the Government's plans
to reform Child Support:
My government will take forward legislation to reform the welfare system, and to reduce poverty. A bill will be introduced to improve the system of child support.
On 24 July the Secretary of State, John Hutton, made a statement on the report from Sir David Henshaw about the future of Child Support. He outlined that a smaller, more efficient body would be brought in to manage the arrangement and collection of child maintenance payments. The government has since been consulting on this, and further detail about the planned organisation is expected later this year.
Until then, CSA will continue to implement its Operational Improvement Plan to improve service to clients. Clients should continue to make child maintenance payments, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure that the money gets where it's needed.
The Government and CSA remain fully committed to the £120m investment made in the Operational Improvement Plan and the continued development of our service to clients, to help lay the foundations for the future child support system.
